CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cavaliers placed center Ed Davis in the NBA’s health and safety protocols on Tuesday. He is the eighth Cavs player in the protocol, joining Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley, Isaac Okoro, Lamar Stevens, Denzel Valentine, Dylan Windler and R.J. Nembhard.
Davis has played in 11 games for the Cavaliers this season and is averaging 1.7 points and 3.4 rebounds.
To fill roster spots while those players are in the protocols, the Cavaliers signed center Luke Kornet and forward Justin Anderson to 10-day contracts via the NBA’s hardship exception. The exception can be used in instances where teams need to add players to fill out a roster when multiple players are absent.
Kornet, who is 7-foot-2, 250 pounds, has played in 133 games and is averaging 5.8 points and 2.6 rebounds. He also has a little 3-point range, shooting 32.6 percent from deep on 3.3 attempts per game in his career.
The 6-foot-6, 230-pound Anderson has 226 games of NBA experience and for his career is averaging 5.2 points and 2.5 rebounds.
The Cavaliers are scheduled to play in Boston on Wednesday night. Their game in Atlanta on Sunday night was postponed after five players tested positive for COVID-19.
