LEXINGTON, Va. — The Southern Conference announced its 100th anniversary teams on Thursday, and Washington and Lee Head Men’s Tennis Coach David Detwiler was named to the men’s tennis team.
Detwiler is a 1988 graduate of Furman University, where he was a four-year letterwinner and team captain as a senior. Detwiler won two Southern Conference singles titles. He claimed the top spot in No. 4 singles in 1986 and in No. 2 singles in 1988. He was also the No. 2 doubles champion with partner Bryan Kelley in 1987 and 1988 and the No. 3 doubles champion with Kelley in 1986.
In his 22nd season as the head coach of the men’s team, Detwiler has engineered some of the finest seasons in school history. He has the most wins in program history with a 316-130 (.709) overall record. He has also produced 19 Old Dominion Athletic Conference titles and 19 trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Additionally, his teams have consistently ranked in the Division III Top 25 polls.
