By Ken Hissner: At the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Hollywood, Florida, over FOX and FOX PPV Leon Margules (Warriors Boxing) and Premier Boxing Champions presented in the Main Event Heavyweight Cuban Luis “King Kong” Ortiz stopped former IBF World champion “Prince” Charles Martin in 6 rounds.
In the Main Event, southpaw No. 6 WBA ranked Luis “King Kong” Ortiz, 33-2 (28), #243 ¼, of Cuba and Miami, FL, stopped former IBF World champion “Prince” Charles Martin, 28-3-1 (25), #246 ¼, of Carson, CA, @1:37 of the seventh round of a scheduled 12.
In the first round, Martin dropped Ortiz for an 8-count. In the fourth round, a straight jab from Martin dropped Ortiz in the final ten seconds. He got up as the bell sounded. In the fifth round, Ortiz landed a right hook to the body, hurting Martin halfway through the round.
In the final minute, Ortiz continues using a jab to the head of Martin. Martin came back in the final seconds but not enough to win the round.
In the seventh six, Ortiz dropped Martin into the ropes for an 8-count. Ortiz was all over him with a left to the body. He landed an overhand left to the chin of Martin, and down he went for a second time, forcing referee Frank Santore to wave it off.
Heavyweight No. 5 WBO ranked Frank “The Cuban Flash” Sanchez, 20-0 (13), #239 ¼, of Cuba and Miami, FL, defeated Christian Hammer, 26-9 (16), #264 ¾, of Romania and Germany, over ten rounds.
In the tenth and final round, Sanchez was credited with a knockdown which looked more like a push-down.
In a rematch, Heavyweight Jonathan “Jonnie” Rice, 15-6-1 (10), #283 ¾, of L.A., CA, defeated Michael Polite Coffie, 12-2 (9), #278 ¼, of Kissimmee, FL, over ten rounds.
Scores were 97-93 twice and 99-91. In July of 2021, Rice scored a 5th round stoppage.
Heavyweight Gerald “El Gallo Negro” Washington, 20-5-1 (13), #253 ¾, of Vallejo, CA, was stopped by Ali Eren Demirezen, 15-1 (12), #256 ¼, of Samsun, Turkey, and Hamburg, GER, @0:28 of the eighth round of a 10.
In the eighth round, the corner of Washington asked the referee to call a halt.
Lightweight Frank “The Ghost” Martin, 15-0 (11), #137, of Indianapolis, IND, stopped Romero “Ruthless” Duno, 24-3 (19), #135 ¾, of Cotabato City, PH, and Miami, FL, at 2:54 of the fourth of a 10.
In the first two rounds, Martin had an edge though Duno, the aggressor. In the third round, Martin had the face of Duno marked up countering him almost at will.
In the fourth round, after a minute, Duno landed his best punch so far, a right on the chin of Martin getting his attention. In the final minute, Martin, a counter left on the chin, dropped Duno for an 8-count from referee Frank Santore.
Shortly later, another counter left dropped him again as his feet went out before him. Getting up, he was out on his feet when the referee should have stopped it, but the corner did.
Heavyweight Viktor “Faust” Vykhryst, 9-0 (7), #233 ¼, of Svitlovodsk, UKR, and Las Vegas, NV, stopped Iago Kiladze, 27-6-1 (19), #216 ½, of Sachkere, GA, at 1:44 of the second round of an 8.
In the first round, Vykhryst had Kiladze down twice. In the second round, Vykhryst scored a third knockdown, and Kiladze got up, but referee Samuel Burgos to call a halt.
Heavyweight southpaw Geovany Bruzon, 6-1 (5), #226 ½ of Holguin, Cuba and Las Vegas, NV, lost to southpaw WBA No. 14 ranked Leonard Pero, 6-0 (3), #252 ¼, of Camaguey, Cuba, and Miami, FL, over eight solid rounds.
In the first round, both southpaws had their moments, with Bruzon the aggressor and Pero the harder puncher having an edge. In the second round’s final thirty seconds, a left from Pero to the liver doubled Bruzon over.
In the third rounds, final minute Pero hurt Bruzon with body shots and bloodied his nose. In the fifth round, Bruzon hurt Pero with a left to the chin after a right uppercut with a little over a minute left in the round.
In the sixth, Bruzon took another round. In the seventh, Pero came out firing with mostly body shots having Bruzon hurt until a low blow from him gave Bruzon several minutes to recover.
In the final seconds, Pero landed a solid left uppercut to the chin of Bruzon. In the eighth and final round, Bruzon needing a stoppage got the best and had Pero holding the last minute for the most part.
Scores were 77-75 and 78-74 twice, with this writer 77-75.
Light Heavyweight southpaw Atif Oberlton, 5-0 (5), #174 ¼, of Philadelphia, PA, stopped Ernest Amuzu, 26-6 (22), #174 ¼, of GH and Prichard, AL, in the second round of a 6.
In the second round, Oberlton hurt Amuzu with a flurry, forcing referee Frank Santore to call a halt.
