SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Highlighted by 10 home matches, the Cal Poly women’s tennis program released its 2022 spring schedule Monday.
This year’s schedule features 24 dates, including 15 non-conference and nine conference matches.
Coming off its best season in a decade, Cal Poly will open the 2022 season by spending the first three weeks on the road. They begin on Friday, Jan. 14 at the Cal Winter Invite that will go through Sunday the 16.
They will then travel up to Eugene, Ore. for matches against Oregon and Gonzaga Jan. 21 and 22. That will lead into the ITA Kickoff Weekend tournament which the Mustangs were chosen to participate in on Jan. 28 & 29 at UCLA. Cal Poly will take on the host Bruins the first day and then either Washington or Denver the next day.
The first home match of the year at Mustang Tennis Complex will be on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 1:30 p.m. against Sacramento State. Last season, the Mustangs were dominant at home going 8-1.
Their first match of Big West play will be the following week on Feb. 11 on the road at UC San Diego. While down there, they will also play a non-conference road match at San Diego State the following day.
They then have a two-match homestand starting on Feb. 20 against UC Davis and then on Feb. 25 against Fresno State.
They follow that up with a trip to northern California for matches against University of San Francisco and Pacific March 3 and March 6.
Cal Poly then returns home to play six of its next seven matches at home, starting with a March 20 home double header against Seattle University at 9:30 a.m. and Fresno Pacific at 2 p.m. They wrap up non-conference play March 22 with a home match against Santa Clara at Mustang Tennis Complex.
Following a March 26 road match at CSUN, the Mustangs begin a two week stretch of hosting Long Beach State, Hawai’i and UC Riverside.
They then play their final road matches of the regular season at UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton before hosting UCSB on April 23 for the final match of the regular season.
The Big West Tournament will be April 27-30 in San Diego.
Cal Poly will be looking to continue its success it had in 2021 in which the Mustangs finished with a 14-3 overall record, the program’s most wins since 2011. They finished third in the Big West standings during the regular season after going 6-2, its highest finish since 2011. They also made it to the championship match of the Big West Tournament for the first time since 2007 and were ranked No. 62 in the country in the final ITA poll.
The Mustangs return five players from last season, including four who earned All-Big West honors.
