WATCH: When a Stubborn Kenny Wallace Did Not Want to Give Up His NASCAR Seat Midway in the Race

At the 1993 Bud 500 at the Bristol Motor Speedway, trouble hit Kenny Wallace midway through the race. Earlier that year, Wallace broke his scapula during a test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Evidently, it was still bothering him, so the team roped in Dick Trickle to take over for him.

Of course, the driver was not very cooperative in terms of making the switch during the first caution period. Later on, the fear of injuring himself further convinced him to exit the car. The good news was that the injury was not very serious.

In the end, the veteran Trickle managed to finish the race in a fine ninth place. It was quite an impressive feat, considering that the G-forces would be doing a number on Wallace’s injured shoulder. Dick Trickle also did an excellent job of bringing the car home in the Top 10.

How did Kenny Wallace perform during that season?

Unfortunately, Wallace has not managed to win in his Cup Series career. In 1993, that ninth-place finish was his second Top 10 finish that year, after a ninth-place finish at Watkins Glen. Later on, he followed that up with 10th place at Darlington, which was right after Bristol. Meanwhile, Dick Trickle has 36 Top 10 finishes to his credit, with a best finish of 3rd at a few tracks.

The good news was that Kenny Wallace had recovered fully from the injury, by then. It is also worth noting that the 9th at Watkins Glen was his first career Top 10. The Bristol result was his second Top 10, though he did share it with Dick Trickle. Later on, he recorded 18 more Top 10 finishes. Additionally, he boasts of six Top 5 finishes, including 2nd place at Talladega in 2000 and North Carolina in 2001. He also stormed to 2nd place at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in 1999.
