Career-changing moments await the likes of hometown hero Jed Morgan and Victorian Su Oh as the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship and the Fortinet Australian WPGA Championship resume at Royal Queensland today.
On a warm Brisbane day, play in the fourth round started at 6.15am today.
The 22-year-old Morgan is threatening to break a cluster of tournament records with his remarkable 20-under par score through three rounds, and he goes off the first tee at 11.35am local time.
The tournament record is 22 under par and the biggest margin in the history of the time-honoured tournament is eight shots.
Alongside Morgan will be his nearest challenger, nine shots adrift, another Queenslander in Andrew Dodt, as well as the 25-year-old LPGA Tour star Oh, who is chasing her first win anywhere in seven years.
Oh is an Olympian and a regular on the main tour, but her most recent win was as an amateur – at the Australian Ladies Masters in 2015 when she was a teenager.
She leads the women’s event by two shots from Sunshine Coast star Sarah Jane Smith and Sydney’s Grace Kim, a first-year professional chasing her first win.
The conditions at magnificent Royal Queensland are good, with the likes of Josh Armstrong (five under through 10 holes today) capitalizing.
Welcoming back big-tournament golf after several events were forced into a hiatus by the Covid-19 pandemic, crowds have flocked to RQ this week, especially to the TaylorMade Party Hole, No. 17.
With Morgan being a Royal Queensland member, another big crowd is anticipated today in Brisbane.
