CHAPEL HILL – Fresh off a pair of dual wins last Saturday, No. 3 North Carolina women’s tennis team is back in action Tuesday to host in-state foes East Carolina at 2 p.m. and Campbell at 6 p.m. from the indoor courts at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
The Tar Heels recorded 7-0 wins over Elon and Appalachian State last weekend to open their dual-match season. Tuesday marks the season openers for the visiting Pirates and Camels.
Fans are encouraged to attend and support the program, but are required to wear a mask.
A victory over ECU would set a new Carolina record with its 51st straight home victory, a streak that began back in March 2018.
Carolina has five ranked singles players on its roster – No. 5 Cameron Morra, No. 7 Reilly Tran, No. 13 Carson Tanguilig, No. 19 Fiona Crawley and No. 57 Anika Yarlagadda.
The doubles teams feature No. 1 Fiona Crawley and Elizabeth Scotty, No. 6 Morra and Tanguilig, No. 16 Crawley and Tran, No. 34 Alle Sanford and Tran, No. 41 Sanford and Kacie Harvey and No. 48 Crawley and Yarlagadda.
ECU embarks on its first dual season since the program was reinstated in January 2021. The Pirates last match took place on March 7, 2020, a 4-1 setback to Coastal Carolina. The remainder of the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Two months later, the ECU administration reduced its athletic programs by four, before deciding to bring back both the women’s tennis and women’s swimming & diving programs in early 2021.
The Tar Heels welcome No. 4 Georgia on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 11 a.m.
