Well, that escalated quickly.
The Sun Devil men’s golf team entered Monday’s Copper Cup action down 7-5 and after going 3-1 in morning foursomes the match was tied with eight points for each team.
It was all ASU after that.
The Sun Devils won seven of the eight afternoon singles matches — five of them by a 1-up score — and cruised to a second straight comeback Copper Cup win, 15-9 over Arizona.
Preston Summerhays and Mason Andersen set the tone with 6 & 4 wins in the afternoon, after Gabe Salvanera and James Leow set the tone in the morning with a 4 & 3 win.
MONDAY AFTERNOON SINGLES (ASU GOES 7-1 TO WIN COPPER CUP, 15-9)
MASON ANDERSEN (ASU) DEF. CAL McCOY (UA), 6 & 4
Andersen won the first hole and never looked back, leading by two after five, three after six, four after 10 and five after 13.
CAMERON SISK (ASU) DEF. SAM SOMMERHUASER (UA), 1-UP
Sisk fell behind by one through seven, but tied it on No. 8 and then took the lead at No. 10 and never gave it back.
GABE SALVANERA (ASU) DEF. CHAZ AURILIA (UA), 1-UP
Salvanera led the whole match, as he won the first three holes and never was tied after.
JAMES LEOW (ASU) DEF. SANTERI LEHESMAA (UA), 1-UP
Leow broke a tie at No. 17 and halved the final hole to earn the point.
PRESTON SUMMERHAYS (ASU) DEF. JOHNNY WALKER (UA), 6 & 4
Summnerhays led by five through six holes and never looked back in the drama-free match.
RYGGS JOHNSTON (ASU) DEF. CHRISTIAN BANKE (UA), 1-UP
Johnston trailed by one with two holes to play, then won them both.
JACKSON NORWICH (UA) VS. JOSE BALLESTER (ASU), 4 & 3
Norwich notched the only Wildcat win in Monday afternoon singles with the victory.
DAVID PUIG (ASU) DEF. CHASE SIENKIEWICZ (UA), 1-UP
Puig went up one hole on No. 9, but the match was tied heading to 18, but Puig earned the point.

A big-time comeback for ASU, as the Sun Devils won the final two holes to earn the win. The duo only led in the final score.

The Sun Devils took a 1-hole lead at No. 8 and never let up, then won No. 16 to win the match.
