PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Drexel men’s tennis team traveled to Providence, R.I. and defeated Brown, 4-3. The Dragons received a standout performance by Matvey Radionov, who beat his opponent to clinch the dual for the Dragons in the fifth flight.
The Dragons dropped the top-seeded doubles match to give Brown the early 1-0 advantage in doubles-play. Alan Jesudason and Djordje Janackovic won their second-seeded doubles match, 6-3, to tie it back at one, and Radionov and Sanil Jagtiani earned the doubles point for Drexel after defeating their opponents in the third-seeded flight.
In singles play, Xandy Hammitt made quick work of his opponent in the fourth spot to give Drexel a 2-0 edge. Brown then won the second and first-seeded matches to tie the dual at two. Jesudason took the third-seeded match to mark his first dual win of his career. Brown won the sixth flight to tie it up at three apiece. Radionov took the first set, 6-2, and dropped the second set in the fifth-seeded match. In the third set, the senior pulled ahead and defeated his opponent, 7-5, to clinch the match for Drexel.
Drexel returns to Philadelphia on Feb. 5 at noon to take on NJIT at the Vidas Bubble. Please note there will be no visitors permitted inside the Drexel Tennis Bubble for home matches.
