CINCINNATI — The University of Cincinnati men’s golf team is looking to carry its fall momentum into the spring, and several members of the team took advantage of their time away to hone their skills.
Ty Gingerich was the headliner by winning the 96-person First Coast Amateur (69-74-69) in Palm Coast, Fla., in which teammates Clay Amlung, Joey McCarthy and Mason Lenhart also participated. Gingerich also finished fourth and seventh at the Orlando Amateur and New Year’s Invitational, respectively.
According to the Jacksonville Area Golf Association, the Indiana native Gingerich first competed in the FCA event as a 16-year-old in 2017.
Amlung also picked up a second-place showing at the four-round South Beach Amateur, carding sub-70 scores in each of the first three.
“I was real pleased the team’s winter efforts,” head coach Doug Martin said. “It shows the commitment of the team to stay competitive in the offseason. This is a veteran group with high-level experience, and I’m real excited to watch what they accomplish in the spring.”
The Bearcats as a whole competed in four tournaments this fall, opening with team and individual (Jean) titles at the Hoosier Collegiate Invite. Jean boasts the lowest scoring average so far at 71.17, followed by McCarthy at 72.25.
As was spent during the winter, UC as a team will also begin its spring season in Florida at USF’s Coral Creek Club Invitational in Placida (Feb. 28-March 1).
