Following Jordan Spieth’s literal high-wire act on Saturday at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Sunday’s finale should be some of the most entertaining golf of the year.
Spieth, after his 63 on a Saturday in which he flirted with falling into head first into a ravine off a cliff on the eighth hole, goes into Round 4 at 14 under — one back of a trio at the top of the leaderboard that includes Beau Hossler, Tom Hoge and Andrew Putnam. Spieth is tied with pre-tournament favorite, Patrick Cantlay, with the pair heading into the final 18 holes on Sunday as the favorites.
There are a total of 16 golfers between 10 and 15 under after 54 holes, so that final round should be fairly dramatic. Maybe not as dramatic as Spieth on No. 8 on Saturday, but a thrill nonetheless. Spieth is going for what would be his second win at this tournament, while Cantlay is vying for his third win in his last 11 starts. Those other 14 golfers near the top will all be laboring to keep them from a victory here, and for many of them, this would be win No. 1 in their PGA Tour careers.
Add it all up, and Sunday should be a roller coaster — and that’s just Spieth’s round! The rest of it should be a joy to watch as well as the west coast sing presses on and we get one final round at one of the iconic courses in this country.
