A female student-athlete at Edison High School has served as team captain in wrestling, track and field and football. What’s more, Nari Miller just learned she won this year’s Athena Award, given to the top female athlete at high schools across the metro.
Out of the three sports she letters in, Miller says wrestling is her favorite. Most of her opponents over the past four years have been male. Right now she is ranked first in the state in her weight class.
When asked if anyone ever doubted her in some of the male-dominated sports she plays, she says any doubt just made her work harder.
“I don’t think anyone ever doubted me to my face, but doubting myself always happens. It’s really humbling, she said. “My 100% could be as good as someone else’s 70%, so keeping myself humble allows me to continue to grow.”
Miller is currently getting ready for sectionals and is hoping to head to the State High School Wrestling Tournament the first weekend in March. She says she also hopes to keep wrestling in college and is still choosing between schools.
