KAILUA, Hawai’i – Azusa Pacific fell by a 6-1 score to Hawai’i Pacific on Saturday afternoon out in Hawai’i. The Cougars are now 2-1 overall to start the season.
Hawai’i Pacific opened the match by winning two of three doubles matches, which put the Sharks up 1-0 overall. Azusa Pacific’s lone doubles win was at No. 3, where Sam Sippel and Ivan Hornung won 6-4. Today’s match was the first time in which Sippel and Hornung have played together for the Cougars.
In singles, the Sharks won five of the matchups. Hornung claimed the only point of the day for the Cougars at No. 6, where he won in straight sets 7-6, 6-2. Hornung is now 2-0 in his singles match this season, and he has won both of his duals in straight sets. While the Sharks took the No. 1 & No. 2 matches in straight sets, the Cougars were able to battle to third sets at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5.
Up Next: The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow, when they take the court against Hawai’i Hilo. First serve is set for noon local time, and 2:00 pm Pacific time.
