NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men’s and women’s tennis teams will start a new week on the road when they both head to Jackson State to take on the Tigers. The women’s match will go at 11 a.m. while the men play at 2 p.m.
MEN’S PREVIEW
The Privateer men have continued to keep the ball rolling as they’re off to their best start (7-0) since tennis records have been kept. Last week, New Orleans earned their first conference victory against Nicholls and followed it up with a 7-0 victory against Loyola.
Marcel Volz continues to be impeccable in singles play. The reigning Southland and LSWA Newcomer of the Year is 6-0 in singles, all at flight one. Three of those six wins have come in three sets. He is also 5-1 in doubles on the year.
New Orleans has continued to display their depth at every spot in the lineup. The squad is a combined 33-5 in singles play this year. David Tesic, Mihajlo Drobnjakovic, Luke Joujan and Dhruv Tangri are all undefeated in singles. In doubles, the Privateers are a combined 17-4.
WOMEN’S PREVIEW
The women’s team (3-1) will be playing their first match in nine days when they face off against Jackson State on Tuesday.
New Orleans won the first four points of the day to get the job done against Jacksonville State back on Feb. 6 in their home opener. The Privateers got singles wins from Lina Hohnhold, Mar Gendra and Marthe Degeorges along with a clean sweep in doubles.
Gendra has gone undefeated in singles play thus far with a 4-0 mark, all at flight five. Degeorges and Hohnhold have both won three matches this season.
In doubles this year, the Privateers are a combined 8-3. Gendra and Salma Abdelrahim along with Hohnhold and Degeorges have both accrued 3-1 marks this year. Ank Vullings and Estelle Vanthier are 2-1.
Tuesday marks the first of two matches on the week for the ladies. They will return home on Saturday, Feb. 19 to face ULM at 11 a.m.
