MOBILE, Ala. – The Fighting Illini men’s golf team opened up its spring schedule on Monday at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate and sits in a tie for second place midway through Round 2 after the first day of competition was halted due to darkness at Magnolia Grove Golf Club’s Crossings Course.
Senior Adrien Dumont de Chassart, who was recently name to the Ben Hogan Award Watch List, sits in a tie for first in the 80-player field. Dumont de Chassart opened with a 3-under 69 in Round 1 and is also -3 through 14 holes in Round 2.
Sophomore Piercen Hunt and senior Tommy Kuhl each sit one spot outside of the top-20 at even-par through 14 holes in Round 2. Hunt (-1) and Kuhl (-2) bounced back with solid starts in the afternoon. Freshman Jackson Buchanan and junior Jerry Ji are tied for 36th and tied for 56th, respectively, to round out the lineup for the Illini.
Three Illini golfers – junior Nico Lang, freshman TJ Barger and senior Luke Armbrust – are also competing as individuals in the event. Lang will return to the course to close out Round 2 at 1-over in a tie for 29th. Barger is tied for 60th and Armbrust is tied for 78th with 22 holes on tap for the Tuesday’s final day of play.
Round 2 will resume Tuesday morning at 8 a.m., followed by the final round of action. Live scoring will be available throughout the day on golfstat.com
