ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men’s tennis team won at No. 1 doubles in a tiebreak to take a 3-0 lead and then captured each of the six singles matches to defeat the University of Rochester 9-0 in a non-league match at the Goergen Athletic Center. RPI, which defeated Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) 9-0 on Saturday, is now 2-0. Rochester falls to 0-2.
Following wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 2 doubles, RPI’s top tandem of Aiden Drover-Mattinen and Peter Lohrbach made it a sweep with an 8-7 (7-3) win.
Lohrbach, a senior, was the first to win his singles match, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, and Drover-Mattinen clinched the victory with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1. The closest match of the day came at No. 2 with Abraham Yohannes prevailing 7-5, 7-6 (7-5).
RPI is back in action on March 6 when it plays Carnegie Mellon in Florida.
