Women’s Tennis to Host Tennessee State and ULM over Weekend
Rebels to Play Inside the William F. Galtney Tennis Center
OXFORD, Miss. – No. 34 Ole Miss women’s tennis (3-2, 0-0 SEC) faces Tennessee State at home on Friday in doubleheader action beginning at 10 a.m. CT. The Rebels will then face Louisiana-Monroe at Noon CT on Sunday.
Ole Miss women’s tennis returns home for its first weekend homestand of the 2022 dual season. The 3-2 Rebels currently hold a 2-0 record in Oxford after winning two matches versus North Alabama inside the William F. Galtney Tennis Center on Jan. 23. Ole Miss plans to play indoors again this weekend due to potentially cold weather conditions.
Rebound Rebels
The Rebels will look to Rebound after suffering a non-conference defeat, 4-0, at Texas State last Saturday (Feb. 19). The Rebels won one match versus the Red Raiders, taking No. 1 doubles in a tiebreak. The No. 1 team of Sabina Machalova and Rachel Krzyzak improved to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in duals in the 2021-22 season.
Updated ITA Rankings
The Rebels were ranked No. 34 in the first computerized team poll of the season. This was the first national ranking of 2022 for Ole Miss. The most recent ITA Team Rankings included the top 75 programs in the country. The previous rankings up to this point were capped at 25 teams.
In the individual rankings, updated on Thursday morning, Sabina Machalova came in at No. 105 in singles and Kelsey Mize and Ludmila Kareisová were ranked No. 22 in doubles.
Scouting the Lions
Tennessee State will be competing for the second time this season this upcoming weekend. First-year head coach Todd Smith is the coach of both the men’s and women’s teams at Tennessee State. Smith played collegiately at Tennessee from 1990-1993.
The Lions currently list four players on their active roster: Daniela Koleva, Kebbeh Nenneh, Franka Sindici and Naomi Von Bose.
Early Bird Gets the Worm
There will be a team pennant giveaway for the first 100 fans to attend the doubleheader versus Tennessee State on Friday morning.
The Scoop on the Warkhawks
Louisiana Monroe enters the weekend with a 2-4 overall record this season. The Warhawks earned a 6-1 victory versus Grambling State on Jan. 22 and a 5-2 win over Nicholls on Feb. 5. ULM faces Northwestern State at home on Friday prior to coming to Oxford on Sunday.
The Warhawks are led by first-year head coach Abdelrahman Zaki. Zaki was the women’s tennis head coach at NJIT from 2017 to 2020. He is also a member of the Egyptian National Team’s coaching staff.
