HENDERSON, Nev. – Sophomore Mateo Fuenmayor finished day one at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate at 4-under par to finish in a tie for fifth in the first day of action at the three-day event.
The tournament is being held at the par-72, 7,204-yard Reflection Bay Golf Club. Fuenmayor leads the Beavers, who finished day one at par, totaling 288.
The 4-under par 68 tied the best round of Fuenmayor’s Oregon State career, equaling his third round at the 2021 Seattle U. Redhawk Invitational.
The Beaverton, Ore., knocked down six birdies on Monday, including three straight at holes 5 (par 4), 6 (par 5) and 7 (par 4). He also birdied 11 (par 4), 14 (par 5) and 17 (par 3).
Fuenmayor’s six birdies paced the Beavers to 21 overall, which ranked third in the 15-team event.
Brandon Eyre connected on four birdies and he’ll enter day two tied at 19th with a 1-under 71. He birdied 6, 11 (par 4), 12 (par 5) and 14.
Jackson Lake enters Tuesday tied for 31st via a 1-over 73. He birdied five holes, at 2 (par 4), 5, 12, 16 (par 4) and 17.
Nolan Thoroughgood birdied holes 2 and 18 (par 4) to finish with a 4-over 76, good for a tie for 63rd. He’s followed by Carson Barry, who totaled four birdies (6, 11, 14 and 18) to finish at 6-over 78. That puts him in a tie for 74th entering day two.
