The two top teams from the 2021 District 27-4A soccer race will collide in action Tuesday at the Uvalde High School soccer field when the Uvalde Lobos will host the La Vernia Bears.
Kick-off time for the contest is set for 7 p.m.
Last season, the Lobos edged La Vernia, 31-30 in district points, to win the district championship.
The Bears did not lose in district action, but they won nine matches and tied three matches, while the Lobos posted a 10-1-1 district record.
Tuesday’s contest will be the second meeting of this season between the Lobos and La Vernia.
Last month in action at La Vernia, the Lobos beat the Bears in a 5-3 thriller.
Besides the loss to the Lobos, La Vernia’s other two district losses have come twice against Pleasanton, 3-2 and 4-2.
The Bears, 7-3 in district play and 10-7-3 for the season, are in third place in the district standings.
They come into the match against the Lobos following Friday night road action at Hondo.
Coach Keith Pendleton’s Lobos, 10-0 in district and 13-2-1 for the season, will enter competition Tuesday following matchup against the Pleasanton Eagles at the UHS soccer field.
Results from that match will be reported in next Thursday’s edition of the Uvalde Leader-News.
Last Wednesday night, the Lobos rolled to an 8-0 victory over the Somerset Lady Bulldogs in action at the UHS soccer field.
Ahlaynah Barrientos scored the first goal of the match for the Lobos. She connected on a long, high shot that went over the goal keeper and into the net for a goal.
Nixon Halvelka was credited with an assist on Barrientos’ goal.
Up 1-0, the Lobos scored three times during the final three minutes of the first half to break the game open.
Abby Kone lined in a shot from 25 yards out for a goal at the 10:26 mark.
Fiona White hit on a shot off a pass from Kasidy Hernandez and an assist from Ahlaynah Barrientos. Abby Kone topped off the scoring with a long-range shot for goal with 4:40 left in the half. He shot came from over 30 yards out.
The Lobos added four games in the second half.

With 33:30 left in the second half, Kone hit a laser shot from 25 yards out to put the Lobos up by a score of 6-0.
Kone’s fourth goal came off an assist by Fiona White.
Kasidy Hernandez made the final goal of the contest with 29:44 left in the game.
After that, Coach Pendleton emptied his bench and the Lobos coasted to a shut-out win.
Following action Tuesday, the Lobos will be at home on Friday to play the Poteet Aggies.
That match is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
