Harris combined for a quartet of victories in singles and doubles play.
The Middlebury men’s tennis team (2-1) completed its three-match home stint with 9-0 sweeps over Bates (1-4) and Saint Michael’s (3-6) on Sunday. The Panthers head west for their spring trip next weekend, taking on Occidental College on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. EST.
In the first match of the day against Bates, Middlebury jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Aidan Harris and Robby Ward won 8-4 in the second spot, while duo Neel Epstein and Zachary Hilty earned an 8-3 victory at #3. Panther tandem Stan Morris and David Vilys edged the Bates duo in the top spot (8-7(3)).
Harris carried his momentum into singles play, limiting his opponent to just two points (6-0, 6-2) for the win at #2. Morris, Epstein, Ward and Zihao Yuan also won in straight sets.
The doubles tandems got the Panthers off to a 3-0 start in the night match against Saint Michael’s. Duo Morris and Vilys won in the top spot 8-4, Harris and Ward combined in the second slot for an 8-3 victory and the Epstein/Hilty tandem eased to an 8-3 win at #3.
Harris completed the busy day with a clean sweep at the top of the ladder (6-1, 6-3), while Vilys held his opponent to just four points (6-0, 6-4) in the third slot. Hilty and Maximus Kim also won in straight sets at #2 and #5, respectively.
