MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – After a perfect 5-0 start to the spring season down in Florida last week, the No. 5 nationally-ranked Wesleyan women’s tennis team continued to roll back at home, defeating Trinity 9-0 on Thursday afternoon in the Bacon Fieldhouse. The Cardinals (6-0, 1-0 NESCAC) dropped just five total doubles games in three matches while Wesleyan cruised to straight set wins in all six singles matches in the win over the Bantams (1-1, 0-1 NESCAC).
Doubles play saw Nika Vesely ’25 and Sophie Henderson ’22 open up with an 8-1 win at #2 over Josephine Kimball and Ashley Walker. Caitlyn Ferrante ’23 and Sasha Gaeth ’23 were next to finish at #1, defeating Angelina Shyltsyna and Isabella Hartman 8-2 while Venia Yeung ’22 and Katie Fleischman ’23 won by the same score at #3 over Ella Baker and Kennedy White.
Taking a 3-0 lead into singles, it didn’t take long for Wesleyan to finish out the match as Fleischman dropped just one game at #3 in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Shyltsyna while Yeung took down Walker 6-1, 6-1 at #4 to seal the victory of the Cardinals.
Vesley took down Kimball at #2 with a 6-1, 6-0 win while Ferrante was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at #1 over Hartman. Closing out the 9-0 win was Renna Mohsen-Breen ’25 who defeated White at #6 in a clean 6-0, 6-0 sweep while Serim Jin ’23 defeated Baker 6-3, 6-1 at #5.
Wesleyan now has over a week to prepare for a road NESCAC road weekend with matches slated at Hamilton on Saturday, March 26 and at Amherst on Sunday, March 27.
