Hardik Pandya to Tim Seifert: OUT! First-ball wicket for Hardik Pandya. Tim Seifert departs for 3. It was a sift dismissal and even Pandya had a hard time believing it but he won’t complain at all.

Mohammed Shami to Prithvi Shaw: FOUR! What a shot from the little man. Not the best of balls from Shami. It was short and wide and Shaw gave it the treatment it deserved.

Delhi Capitals’ chase begins. Prithvi Shaw and Tim Seifert are out in the middle. DC need 172 to win. Mohammed Shami has the new ball in his hand.

Only 4 runs from the last over including a leg bye. Mustafizur Rahman has been simply brilliant today. Gujarat Titans finish with 171 for 6.

Mustafizur Rahman to Abhinav Manohar: OUT! Another one bites the dust. This time it is Abhinav Manohar, who had no option but to go for the big hits in the last over. 

Mustafizur Rahman to Rahul Tewatia: OUT! This time Rahul Tewatia has been caught and it is Shardul Thakur who takes a good backward running catch. A length delivery, outside off. Rahul Tewatia looks to power it away but miscues it. The ball goes in the air behind the cover fielder in the ring. Shardul Thakur there runs behind and takes a fine catch.

Shardul Thakur to David Miller: SIX! That is a biggieeeee! knuckle ball from Shardul, picked up early by Miller and depostied into the stands.

Shardul Thakur to Rahul Tewatia: DROPPED! Lalit Yadav did all the hard work of getting to the ball but couldn’t manage to hold on to it. Rahul Tewatia gets a life. 

Khaleel Ahmed to Shubman Gill: OUT! Big wicket this, Khaleel Ahmed strikes and gets his second wicket! Top knock from Gill comes to an end. Khaleel Ahmed goes short, on off and it is slower in pace. Gill pulls it but fails to get the desired distance. The ball goes straight into the hands of Axar Patel at deep mid-wicket. Gill is disappointed with himself but he has done his job quite well today.

Shubman Gill races into the 80s. A six and a four in this Axar Patel over and the Gujarat Titans are coasting at the moment. Rishabh Pant’s bowlers have no answers at the moment.

No respite for Delhi Capitals. Even Kuldeep Yadav is now going the journey. Shubman Gill hit him for a six and then David Miller struck a boundary.

Khaleel Ahmed breaks the dangerous stand by removing Hardik Pandya. Timely wicket as the two were getting a move on. Length and outside off. Pandya looks to power it over long on but hits it way too flat. Powell there takes it on the second attempt. A good little knock from him but he needed to continue. GT 109/3 after 13.5 overs

Back-to-back boundaries from the bat of Shubman Gill. There is no stopping the right-hander now. Khaleel Ahmed bearing brunt currently. This ominous signs for DC. They desperately need a wicket now. 

Shubman Gill flicks it for a single and that brings up his 11th IPL fifty off 32 balls. This has been a very good innings from the right-hander.

Shardul Thakur to Shubman Gill: FOUR! Down the track comes Shubman Gill and drives it through the cover region for a boundary. Terrific batting from the right-hander. Two boundaries in the over, just what the doctor ordered for GT.

Shardul Thakur to Hardik Pandya: FOUR! Glorious from Hardik. Nothing really wrong with that ball from Shardul. It was around off stump and slightly fuller than he would have liked, Hardik puts a good stride in and just strokes it past the covers for a boundary.

Axar Patel to Hardik Pandya: FOUR! Short and wide from Axar, it deserved to put away and full marks to Hardik for doing it with perfect. This is a different sort of Hardik we are seeing this IPL. He is ready to take time against the spinner. 

GT 75/2 after 11 overs

Khaleel Ahmed to Hardik Pandya: FOUR! The left-armer drops it slightly short and Hardik brings out the pull shot. Connects well too. The ball races to the boundary. The Gujarat Titans needed this. 

GT 63/2 after 9.1 overs

Only 5 runs off Kuldeep Yadav’s second over and the umpire calls it for the strategic timeout. Gujarat Titans 58 for 2 after 9 overs. One would have to say, the bowling side will be the happier one at this stage but things could change very quickly in this format. 

50 up for Gujarat Titans in the 7th over. Things are absolutely even at the moment. Shubman Gill is the key for Gujarat. He needs to play well against the DC spinners, especially Kuldeep.

Kuldeep Yadav to Vijay Shankar: OUT! What a start for Kuldeep Yadav. He can do no wrong in this IPL. Tosses it up, Shankar goes for a slog sweep but ends up missing it and the ball cannons into his stumps.

GT 44/2 in 6.1 overs. 

That’s the end of the powerplay and the Gujarat Titans have moved to 44/1. Pant had no choice but to bring back Mustafizur as Gill was in beast mode against the other DC bowlers. 

Axar Patel to Shubman Gill: SIX! There it is, 50th six in T20 cricket for Shubman Gill. Patel tosses it up, Gill brings the big stride out and slog sweeps it deep into stands. What a fantastic shot from a fantastic young player.

Shardul Thakur to Shubman Gill: FOUR! Smashed past backward point. That was a screamer from Gill. He was almost waiting for Shardul to drop it short and wide and voila! The DC seamer did exactly that.

Vijay Shankar is struggling a bit at the momentum. There is enough help for the fast bowlers and all the DC seamers so far have been superb.

Shardul Thakur to Shubman Gill: FOUR! A short-arm frontfoot swat from Shubman Gill that races away to the boundary. A nothing delivery from Shardul and Gill took full advantage.

Mustafizur Rahman to Matthew Wade: OUT! A successful review for Delhi Capitals. There was a clear edge when the ball was passing the bat. Great great start for Mustafizur and DC. Quite an adventrous shot that was from Wade but not entirely unexpected from him either. He walked across his stumps to paddle it fine but ends up getting a faint nick back to the keeper. The umpire shook his head but had to reverse his decision as DC took a review.

Rishabh Pant almost said that he wants to bat first after winning the toss before quickly correcting himself and saying that he would bowl. Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya immediately broke out in a laughter while presenter Danny Morrison, asked Pant to reconfirm his decision to bowl twice, which the left-hander did. A fun toss indeed.

Delhi Capitals bring Mustafizur Rahman into the XI in place of Kamlesh Nagarkoti. Gujarat Titans have decided to field an unchanged XI.

Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant win the toss and opts to bowl first against Gujarat Titans

Looks almost same as the one used in the last game. Lot of grass, firm. good carry and bounce. As a bowler if you want to survive you have to bowl the hard length. Enough pace, carry and movement for the bowler. Dew factor isn’t that great here, which is why this is only venue where a team batting first has won the game. Will be interesting to see what the captain winning the toss will do: Deep Dasgupta with the pitch report.

GT captain Hardik Pandya might be tempted to hold his ace spinner Rashid Khan for DC Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant. Opposition batters generally try to play out Rashid Khan but considering the attacking nature of the DC left-hander, it can be a mouth-watering contest to look forward to.  

The Afghanistan opener was drafted in as replacement for Jason Roy. If Gujarat Titans give the keeping gloves to Wriddhiman Saha, then there is a case for Rahmanullah Gurbaz to play as an opener in place of Matthew Wade. Gurbaz is an exciting young talent who knows how to hit the big shots.

What a start it was for Kuldeep Yadav. The left-arm wrist spinner made picked up three wickets for only 14 runs in his Delhi Capitals debut and sent out a message to all those doubting his credentials as a T20 bowler. As DC’s lead spinner, Kuldeep is likely to have a big impact in this tournament. 

Gujarat Titans might make a crucial change in their batting department.

IPL 2022 has so far been a tournament for India’s veterans and Mohammed Shami is among them who has started the tournament on a high. The way he got rid of LSG captain KL Rahul, wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock and Manish Pandey in the powerplay would would have made any bowler proud in Test match cricket. Shami’s couple of overs (or maybe three) would be very crucial.

Khaleel Ahmed picked up two crucial wickets after Shardul Thakur and Kamlesh Nagarkoti were taken to the cleaners in the match against MI. But due to availability of Mustafizur Rahman and Lungi Ngidi for this match, there is a possibility that he might not get into the XI.

Gujarat Titans’ captain Hardik Pandya completed his full quota of 4 overs in the match against Lucknow without any discomfort. In fact, he regularly hit the 140 kmph mark in his first two overs. This is not only a great side for newcomers GT but also for Indian cricket as Hardik Pandya’s all-round abilities add a lot of balance to the side. 

How good was Lalit Yadav in DC’s last match against MI? Excellent to be precise. He was one of the main reasons why DC were able to chase down RCB’s total despite losing their way at the top. The Delhi cricketer has steadily improved as a batter in the shortest format of the game and if he can continue the good work with the bat, he can be an absolute game-changer in the middle-order.

The Delhi Capitals played with only two overseas cricketers – Tim Seifert and Rovman Powell – in their opening match of the season. That was mainly due to unavailability of a number of their top overseas stars. DC received a big boost ahead of their match against Gujarat Titans as Mustafizur Rahman, Lungi Ndigi are available for selection and so is Indian batter Sarfaraz Khan.
