LATHAM, N.Y. – Juniors Alex Mednikova and Rani Jones combined to win at No. 1 doubles and then went on to win their respective matches and senior Sonya Khudyakov also had a pair of victories as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women’s tennis team defeated William Smith College 7-2 in a Liberty League match at Tri-City Fitness. The victory is the fourth in a row for the Engineers, who are now 9-6 overall and 3-1 in the conference. The Herons drop to 3-6 and 0-1.
Mednikova and Jones earned an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles while Khudyakov and Nitya Subramaniam boasted an 8-2 win at No. 3. The trio then earned straight set wins in singles with Mednikova winning at No. 1, Jones at No. 2 and Khudyakov at No. 6. Khudyakov lost just one game in her match.
