This past week the Newnan High School boy’s tennis team competed in their regional tournament at Sweetwater Tennis Center in Austell.
Newnan was the number one seed in the tournament, followed by Campbell High School, East Coweta High School and McEachern High School.
Newnan defeated McEachern 4-0 in the first round with wins at #1 singles by Grant Robertson, #2 singles by Reese Robertson, #1 doubles by Jaret Webb and Reed Miller, and #2 doubles by Wyatt Welden and Elijah Walton.
Newnan then went on to face Campbell for a rematch of last year’s final. Newnan took the win against Campbell 4-1 with wins by Grant Robertson, Reese Robertson, Robert Ward in singles, and Welden and Logan Crowe in doubles.
For the second year in a row, the Newnan Cougars came away as the top seed in the region. Newnan will now move on to the state tournament, set to begin after Spring Break.
The Northgate Vikings defeated Sandy Creek in both boys and girls matches in other local tennis action. The girls winners included Audrey Wheeless, Jennifer Siegel, Abigail Vogel, Caitlyn Kearney, Abby Lavelle, Lisa Van Camp and Elaina Van Camp.
Viking boys winners included Leyton Dunn, Bearre Dorsey, Kyle Moore, Jacob Benson and Philip Stefan.
