GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women’s golf team shot a 24-over 600 (296-304) during the first two rounds on the opening day of the Ironwood Invitational Monday in Greenville, N.C. to end the day in 10th place.
Setting the pace for the Chanticleers was freshman Sara Sarrion who shot a three-over 147 (74-73) on the first day of action. She collected a team-high seven birdies on the day, which included consecutive birdies on holes 7-9 in the first round. She enters the final round tied for 17th.
Tiffany Arafi finished the day’s action with a seven-over 151 (72-79). After a solid first round in which she carded two birdies and two bogeys, the afternoon round played a little tougher as she managed just one birdie. She is tied for 40th heading into the final round.
Caitlin Evans-Brand and Sophia Carlsen carded identical 8-over 152 scores. Evans-Brand picked up her score with rounds of 76-76, while Carlsen shot a 74 in the morning round and finished with a 78 in the afternoon. They are tied at 48th overall.
Jenjira Jinangkul finished her opening day with an 11-over 155 (78-77) and is tied for 58th.
For the second consecutive week, Maika Llarena competed as an individual and finished her round off at 12-over 156 (78-78). She is tied for 60th with one round to play.
The College of Charleston holds a four-stroke lead after the first two rounds. The Cougars finished the day with a three-under 573, while Campbell is in second after carding a one-over 577. Charlotte is next after a four-over 580, while James Madison and host East Carolina are tied for fourth at seven-over 583.
Ohio State is in sixth at 13-over 589 followed by USF (+16, 592), Augusta (+18, 594), and North Florida who is just one stroke in front of the Chants with a 23-over 599.
Rounding out the field are Richmond (+30, 606), Western Kentucky (+35, 611), and High Point (+36, 612).
