RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond defeated the Longwood men’s tennis team 5-2 in what is the Lancers last match of the season.
Doubles
Richmond (10-8) sophomore Daniel Kliebhan and senior John Walsh Longwood (9-10) opened the match by taking down Senior Guillermo Cagigas junior Ernest Rocabert 6-2 in No.1 doubles. Senior Alex Wernink and sophomore Sebastian Miano followed suit and triumphed 6-3 in No.3 doubles against freshman Yoav Weinberg. Freshman Nikhil Kulkarni against Graduate Rosen Naydenov and freshman Luis Reis did not finish due to the Spiders already clinching the doubles point.
Singles
Spiders Klienhan, Walsh, and freshman Eli Gordon were victorious in straight sets in No.1, 2 and 6 singles against Naydenov, graduate Jourdan Kast, and Weinberg respectively. Rocabert won No.3 singles with a 6-3, 7-6 score against senior Alex Wernink. Cagigas emerged from No.4 singles victorious by defeating Bell 7-4, 7-5. Burke and Weinberg had a close first set in No.5 singles before the Spider prevailed 7-6, 6-1.
