MONROE — PCM’s soccer team used a fast start to down Atlantic at home on Friday.
The Mustangs scored four times in the first 12 minutes and coasted to a 4-1 victory over the Trojans.
“The fast start was huge, but then we got sloppy,” PCM soccer coach Darrin Telfer said. “We need to continue to play together and work as a team.”
Tyler Kuecker scored the first two goals of the match and Carson VandeLune put in the final two. VandeLune scored PCM’s final goal of the match with 28:47 to go in the first half.
Caden Bouwkamp and Jacob Elrod each had assists for the Mustangs, who improved to 2-1. PCM took 13 shots and registered seven shots on goal. Atlantic dropped to 1-2.
Alex Egland and Kaden Clark split time in goal. Both keepers played 40 minutes and Egland had the lone save.
Kuecker now has seven goals on the season, which ranks tied for seventh in Class 1A.
“We subbed a lot and got lots of minutes for our kids,” Telfer said. “Both keepers played well.”
