MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Grizzlies’ Ja Morant and Taylor Jenkins are in the running for some more trophies.
Ja Morant, a guard, is a finalist for the 2022 NBA Most Improved Player award.
Taylor Jenkins, the coach, is a finalist for the 2022 NBA Coach of the Year award.
Morant is in the running with Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland and San Antonio Spurs guard Dejounte Murray.
Jenkins is in the running with Miami Heat Erik Spoelstra and Phoenix Suns Monty Williams.
Morant improved from 19 points last season, to nearly 28, which was top-10 in the entire NBA.
Morant was one of four NBA players to average 27 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists this season, joining the cast of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Dončić, and LeBron James.
Jenkins led a Grizzlies team to a Southwest Division championship, the first-ever in Grizzlies history.
Memphis also tied its franchise record for wins in a season with 2012-2013 and held the 2nd overall seed in the Western Conference, the highest playoff seed in team history.
If Morant wins the award, he would be the first Grizzly to ever do it.
If Jenkins wins Coach of the Year, he would join Hubie Brown as the only other Memphis coach to win.
Brown won the award in consecutive seasons in 2003 and 2004.
The date and time for the ceremony are still unknown.
