VALDOSTA, Ga. – Two rounds are in the books at the 2022 ASUN Women’s Golf Championship, where the Kennesaw State women’s golf team ended Monday in second place.
The Owls carded a 7-over 295 score Monday, adding to a tournament score of 5-over 581.
Junior Bella Kil leads the 55-player field after the first 36 holes in the tournament. She also led the event after round one’s conclusion Sunday.
Golfstat’s No. 48 North Florida leads the tournament heading into round three.
LEADING THE PARLIAMENT:
Kil carded a 1-under 71 Monday to add to an overall scorecard of 4-under 140. She leads the field by one stroke.
She carded seven birdies on the back-nine and leads the event with 12 birdies. She is the lone participant to have double-digit birdies for the tournament.
Kil stands tied for the par-5 scoring lead with a 4.63 average. Her and Alizee Vidal are tied for third with a 3.95 par-4 scoring average.
Her score tied the second-lowest total by an Owl through 36 holes at the ASUN Championship in program history. Lara Jecnik also carded a 4-under 140 after the first two rounds at the 2021 ASUN Championship.
SCORECARD:
Alizee Vidal tied for third after round two action with a 1-over 73 tally Monday. Her tournament score stands at 1-under 143.
Vidal is second among participants with 28 pars.
Meva Schmit and Cameron Neilson stand tied for 13th at the ASUN Championship with scores of 5-over 149. In round two, Schmit posted a 3-over 75 while Neilson carded a 4-over 76.
Schmit drained the event’s only eagle on the par-5 14th hole. She is third in par-5 scoring with a 4.75 average.
At 6-over 150, Jecnik is tied for 17th among the participants.
GOLF CART NOTES:
>> The Owls lead the field in par-5 scoring with a 4.95 scoring average.
>> KSU tallied the most birdies (28) through the first two rounds and posted the second-most pars (118).
>> The team is second in par-4 scoring with a 4.09 average and third in par-3 scoring with a 3.10 average.
THORNE’S THOUGHTS:
“The team battled through some stronger winds today,” head coach Erin Thorne said. “They kept their heads about them, while as a group we experienced a tough stretch, and bounced back in a big way to still be in position for the final round.”
