“He (Dhoni) is the master at finishing. Did it again tonight. Wanted to go for that scoop shot in the first over. He asked me to wait. Then I asked him again and he said go for it. Working on my bowling. Glad to contribute to a win for my team,” says Dwaine Pretorius.

“In the end it was a great fight from us, we were in the game after not batting well, the bowlers kept us in, but in the end you know how towering MSD can be and he took them home,” says Rohit Sharma.

Riley Meredith has been handed debut cap! He can bowl some quick deliveries and play the role of a third seamer alongside Bumrah and Unadkat.

“I always think this is the season’s biggest match, considering the number of times we have won the title and the rivalry that exists between us. It’s also important for us to win, we just need to continue playing with intensity,” says Ishan Kishan.

“This pitch was used early on in the tournament where Punjab Kings belted RCB in a huge chase, so expect lots of runs. It is a little dry, nice and hard, and has plenty of grass on it but the big question will be whether the captain that wins the toss bats first,” says Matthew Hayden about the surface.

“I think that will suit Chennai and their three spinners are going to come into play.”

Dwayne Bravo has 31 IPL wickets against Mumbai Indians in 20 matches. His four overs will be crucial tonight, and Jadeja can also bring in Maheesh Theekshana early.

Tilak Varma scored 26 in the previous game and Dewald Brevis hit an attacking 13-ball 31. The two youngsters have shown glimpses of their ability but Mumbai need someone like Rohit or Pollard to lead from the front. How good has been Maheesh Theekshana for Chennai! Bowling with an action that is far from conventional, the off-spinner from Sri Lanka has taken six wickets in just three games.

Skipper Rohit Sharma took ‘full responsibility’ for Mumbai Indians’ sixth consecutive defeat after KL Rahul’s ton outwitted the IPL heavyweights.

“It’s not coming off, I take the full responsibility of no putting the team in the situation of what they expect from me,” said Rohit in the post-match presentation.

Ishan Kishan has 191 runs from six games but the young opener needs to punch above his weight in tonight’s crucial games. Dewald Brevis, Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav have shown individual batting brilliance but the Mumbai outfit needs collective firepower of batters against Chennai. 

The most prolific batter for Chennai against Mumbai has been former skipper MS Dhoni. He has got 589 runs against the opposition. 

While Lasith Malinga remains the most successful MI bowler against CSK with 31 wickets to his name, Kieron Pollard is the standout bowler from the current lot. The West Indian has picked up 14 wickets against Chennai.

Jasprit Bumrah is all set to play his 200th T20 game if he takes the field tonight. The pacer has been the lone bright spot in an otherwise lacklustre bowling effort from the five-time IPL winners.

Former India tweaker Harbhajan Singh even compared the MI-CSK game to the India-Pakistan rivalry on the international stage.

Matheesha Pathirana, a 19-year old medium pacer, was a part of Sri Lanka’s U19 World Cup squads in 2020 and 2022. 

Chennai Super Kings have named Sri Lanka’s Matheesha Pathirana as a replacement for injured Adam Milne, who suffered a hamstring injury in his team’s opener against Kolkata. The Kiwi quick has been ruled out of the tournament.

“There has to be a collective effort and that is what we are looking for,” pointed out Unadkat.

Mumbai Indians are on the verge of elimination with six straight losses and they look to rectify things in search of two crucial points. MI pacer Jaydev Unadkat talked about the ‘El Classico’ before the game.

“From the outside, it probably is the El Classico of the IPL. Both teams are gonna come hard and it will be a good contest,” Unadkat told the media.

Five-time champions Mumbai Indians are yet to record their first win of the season and they face Chennai in one of the most anticipated games of the season. The rivalry between two sides is often dubbed as ‘El Classico’ of the IPL. While Mumbai are at the bottom of the points table, Chennai are a rung above their rivals.

Their fortunes have nosedived this season and a win against Chennai would certainly put a smile on the faces of Mumbai Indians’ fans. Talking about Chennai, the team’s new skipper Ravindra Jadeja has not been able to inspire the side as expected.
