PURDUE IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Boilermakers enter the tournament ranked No. 43 in Golfstat’s national rankings, while sitting in 46th according to Golfweek. Purdue is the fourth-highest ranked team in this week’s field behind No. 18 Michigan, Illinois (26th) and Michigan State (34th).
LAST TIME ON THE LINKS
Behind a pair of top-10 finishes from Ashley Kozlowski and Danielle du Toit, Purdue placed third at the Indiana Invitational (300-301-298—899). The Boilermakers matched their best finish in a stroke play event this season, alongside a third-place performance at the Illini Invitational back in October. Kozlowski placed solo sixth, matching her best finish of the season as well as her Boilermaker career. She recorded nine birdies throughout the tournament, the third-most in the field of 68, which included three in her final round. Du Toit fired a final-round 73 that vaulted her into the top 10, a tie for seventh to lock up her best performance of the 2021-22 campaign.
BOILERMAKERS B1G SUCCESS
Purdue has been one of the most successful programs in Big Ten history. The Boilermakers have won six conference championships to go along with nine medalists. All six Big Ten Championships won by Purdue have been under the guidance of head coach Devon Brouse. Purdue captured its six titles in a 14-year span (2000-13), which includes a three-peat from 2008 to 2010. The lowest individual scores in conference championship history have been by Boilermakers. Laura Gonzalez-Escallon holds the 72-hole low with a 280 (71-70-70-69) in 2010. Also that year, Purdue broke the 72-hole team record to capture its third straight Big Ten title (289-292-294-294—1,158) In 2016, August Kim set the best 54-hole mark at 207 (69-71-67). The Big Ten Championship has been decided by a 54-hole stroke play format since 2012.
PURDUE WORLDWIDE
Boilermakers come from all over the world. For this weekend’s Big Ten Championship, the Purdue lineup consists of golfers from five different countries: Indonesia (Inez Wanamarta), Peru (Daniela Ballesteros), South Africa (Danielle du Toit), Thailand (Kan Bunnabodee) and the United States (Jocelyn Bruch, Ashley Kozlowski)
INEZ’S EXPERIENCE
In her fifth season as a Boilermaker, Inez Wanamarta brings veteran leadership to a team looking to return to a seventh straight NCAA Regional. The Surabaya, Indonesia, native has played in 119 rounds for the Old Gold and Black, while totaling 44 tournaments over her career. She started as the 2018 Big Ten Freshman of the Year before earning all-league honors for the second time as a sophomore. With her junior season cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pushing the start of the 2021 season to the spring, Wanamarta was given an extra year of eligibility and looks to make the most of it as her Purdue Golf career winds down.
A SPRING STAPLE
Following a redshirt year, Jocelyn Bruch has become a mainstay in the Purdue lineup. The Carmel, Indiana, native has started for the Boilermakers in eight of the team’s 10 tournaments this season, including all six spring tournaments. Bruch has fired the low round of the day three times, and she is one of four Boilermakers to record an eagle during the 2021-22 campaign. Bruch remains in the lineup for the Big Ten Championship, making her seventh straight appearance.
NEXT ON THE TEE
Purdue hopes to put a bow on its season at the Big Ten Championship, leading to a trip to an NCAA Regional (May 9-11). The Boilermakers are looking to make their seventh straight regional berth. Purdue has qualified for an NCAA Regional in 23 of the past 24 opportunities, only missing in 2014 (2020 championships were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
