A man and child are in critical condition after a pickup truck struck a golf cart in Brevard County.According to Florida Highway Patrol, it happened in the area of Harlock Road and Lake Washington Road around 9 p.m. Monday night. The accident was captured on a home surveillance system. In the video, you can see the golf cart pass, then the truck. Lt. Channing Taylor with Florida Highway Patrol says the driver slammed on the truck’s brakes, then skidded into the back of the cart.A 48-year-old father and his 17-year-old son “were thrown from the golf cart. They both sustained head injuries. One is a 17-year-old who is autistic. Completely devastated by this event. He understands what happened. Both in serious condition. We don’t think it’s life-threatening at this point,” Taylor said.The other cart passengers were not injured. Florida Highway Patrol released the footage because troopers say the driver of the pickup did not stop. An active search is now underway.”What we are looking for is a white pick-up truck, possibly a Chevy Silverado. It’s going to be a work-type truck,” Taylor said. “And it will be towing a flatbed trailer with lumber on it.”Another video also shows the pick-up before the accident. FHP says there will be minor damage to the front and believes that the driver lives in north Melbourne or the Viera area.Toniann Snyder lives near where the accident happened. Many families there use golf carts to go to nearby Lake Washington.”I am definitely going to stay on the grassier sides of the road. Yeah.
