It’s the first career Pitcher of the Month Award for both hurlers
Pérez, who took home the American League honor, led all qualified starters with a 0.64 ERA in May. He went 4-0 with 33 strikeouts over his six starts, with Texas winning all six of those games.
The Texas southpaw had three scoreless outings during the month, and his best game was a shutout of the Astros in Houston on May 20.
After a rocky April, Wheeler, who netted the Senior Circuit’s accolade, returned to ace form in May. He went 2-0 with a 1.65 ERA and 40 strikeouts in his five starts, as he regained his upper-90s fastball that he didn’t have in the early part of the season.
Wheeler’s 1.65 ERA ranked third in the NL, and his 40 strikeouts were tied for third with teammate Aaron Nola. He notched his first double-digit strikeout game of the season on May 23 against the Braves.
