CHENNAI: Ruby Trichy Warriors registered a clinical eight-wicket win over Dindigul Dragons in their TNPL 6 clash at Tirunelveli on Friday. Trichy’s bowlers kept Dindigul to 144-8 in the first half. The left-handed duo – Nidhish Rajagopal (64 n.o., 6×4, 1×6) and Adithya Ganesh (37 n.o., 2×4) – then took centre-stage and helped Trichy cross the finish line with 6 balls to spare.
Chasing 145, Trichy lost Amit Satvik (20) and Murali Vijay (8) early. Both Nidhish and Adithya then got together in the 6th over with their team’s total reading 33 for 2. The duo brought Trichy’s chase on track with their unbeaten 114-run stand from 84 balls for the third-wicket stand. The two chose to play risk-free cricket, relied on singles, twos and the occasional boundaries to keep the scoreboard moving. The two complemented each other well and raised the 100-run stand from 77 balls. The only blemish in Nidhish’s innings came when L Vignesh dropped a straightforward chance at long-off region when the batsman was on 54.
The first half saw Trichy bowlers keeping a tight leash on the Dindigul batters. The Dindigul top-order comprising skipper Hari Nishaanth (25), K Mani Bharathi (18) and K Vishal Vaidhya (16) got off to starts but failed to carry on. Medium-pacer Ajay Krishna (4-1-9-2), making his debut, and left-arm spinner Rahil Shah (2-24) were the standout performers for Trichy. The two bowled tight lines and kept taking wickets at regular intervals to put brakes on Dindigul’s scoring.
Ajay’s first over was a maiden and his opening spell read an impressive 2-1-3-1. Ajay, who dismissed Hari Nishaant in his second over, accounted for R Vivek (6) in his second spell. At 87 for 6 in the 15th over, Dindigul looked in deep trouble. However, the 31-run 7th wicket stand between K Monish (24) and L Vignesh (32 n.o., 5×4) helped Dindigul cross the 100-run mark. Vignesh’s 20-ball cameo – which included three back-to-back boundaries in the last three deliveries of the innings – helped Dindigul finish on a positive note.
Brief scores: Dindigul Dragons 144-8 in 20 overs (L Vignesh 32 n.o.; Ajay Krishna 2-9, Rahil Shah 2-24). Ruby Trichy Warriors 147-2 in 19 overs (N Rajagopal 64 n.o., Adithya Ganesh 37 n.o.). Trichy won by 8 wickets
