Xander Schauffele will head into the weekend at the Travelers Championship with the solo lead and will attempt to fend off the likes of Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay. A winner alongside his good friend Cantlay earlier this season at the Zurich Classic, the current Olympic gold medalist has been held without a solo victory on the PGA Tour in quite some time.
Last entering the winner’s circle at the 2019 Tournament of Champions, only one of Schauffele’s five career victories have come in a full field stroke-play event. He will attempt to add to this total and in the process propel himself into the last seven weeks of the 2022 PGA Tour season as the FedEx Cup Playoffs are quickly approaching.
Defending champion Harris English and PGA Tour veteran Webb Simpson are also in the mix and are both in need of a strong finishes to their years. With those two rounding out the cast of contenders, a weekend filled with fireworks is expected to unfold at TPC River Highlands.
