Novak Djokovic is back from his seventh Wimbledon triumph, the fourth in a row. The former world number 1 conceded a few misses during the tournament, but was once again flawless in the h*t stages. Thanks to yet another seal on the London meadows, the Serbian phenomenon has lifted a subdued season and shortened the gap that separates him from Rafael Nadal in the all-time Grand Slam standings.
The Spaniard had in fact risen to 22 Majors by winning the Australian Open and Roland Garros. Nole will hardly be able to go to the United States to compete in the US Open, not being vaccinated against the Coronavirus. Several members of American politics have sided with the ‘Djoker’ in recent weeks, but the government seems adamant.
The 35-year-old from Belgrade has already made it clear that he will not play minor tournaments to collect points. The 21-time Grand Slam champion is relaxing in Croatia these days, waiting to see how his year will continue.
During a long interview with ‘Tuttosport’, Juventus center forward Dusan Vlahovic expressed his admiration for Djokovic.
Vlahovic opens up on Djokovic
If Novak Djokovic is a great reference for young players in his sport, his aura goes far beyond the framework of tennis.
In a recent interview with Tuttosport, the Serbian Dusan Vlahovic, professional footballer and striker of the famous Juventus club in Turin in Italy, wanted to put things straight when the journalist placed him on the same line as the man with 21 Grand Slam titles.
“I don’t consider myself a reference because there is still so much to do, Djokovic on the other hand is a reference for all of us. It’s a pleasure to be his compatriot: I hope he can win more trophies and achieve all his goals.
I don’t know him directly, but we spoke a few times. He complimented me when I arrived at Juventus. His mental toughness is a model, the way he trains. If he came to visit us for a few exchanges, it would be a great pleasure.”
Last week, the United States President, Joe Biden, received a letter from Nebojsa Jovanovic, asking for Djokovic to be allowed to participate in the tournament in New York. Jovanovic is the owner of a company that promotes professional tennis.
The letter read, “The US Open is the biggest tennis tournament in the world, and it will not be what it is without Novak Djokovic. Considering the economic situation and the crisis at all levels, America must not allow the US Open not to be held in its full glory and capacity, which also means the participation of Novak Djokovic, who has been crowned three times at the US Open”.
