Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 7 seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the San Jose Open by winning against Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the No 4 seed, 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 at San Jose State University Tennis Center on Friday evening.
Kasatkina, ranked No 12, will face the winner of the match between American Coco Gauff, the No 6 seed, and Spaniard Paula Badosa, the second seed, next.
The Russian beat Kazakh Elena Rybakina (1-6, 6-2, 6-0) and American qualifier Taylor Townsend (6-4, 6-0) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous round, Sabalenka, ranked No 6, edged out American lucky loser Caroline Dolehide (5-7, 6-1, 7-5).
