Aug. 14—The Model Laboratory boys soccer team remained undefeated on the season with a lopsided win on Saturday in Richmond.
Keshav Bhandari had two goals and an assist as the Patriots (2-0) topped Rowan County, 10-0. Tyler Jones had two goals as well.
Hugo Marti had a goal and an assist.
Shalin Kutty-Poffenberger, Kole Arnold, Asher Mayer, Zach Starnes and Will Lowery each scored a goal.
Tanner Martin had two assists. Dylan Smith and Carson Fain also had assists.
Model is set to return to action Tuesday at home against Southwestern.
Lady Pirates get first win of season
The Berea Community girls soccer team had not scored a goal through the first two games of the season.
On Saturday, the team’s offense started to click.
The Lady Pirates (1-2) scored four goals in the second half and rallied for a 5-3 win over Bath County in Berea. Maddy King had two goals and an assist and Katie Eiselt also scored twice.
Diane Wideman scored a goal as well.
The Lady Pirates trailed 2-1 at halftime.
Berea is set to return to action Tuesday against 44th District rival Madison Southern.
Lady Indians open season with win
The Madison Central girls soccer team opened the season with a 9-0 win over Estill County on Saturday evening in Richmond.
The Lady Indians led 4-0 at halftime.
Natalie Knecht scored three goals in the lopsided win. Maddie Eades had two goals. Kally Lloyd, Pressley Lochmueller, Payton Ardery and Madelynn Hendricks also scored goal.
Central is set to return to action Monday at home against Russell.
Central rally falls short
The Madison Central boys soccer team scored twice in the final 10 minutes of regulation, but couldn’t come up with the tying goal.
Covington Catholic (1-1) held on for a 5-4 win on Saturday in Richmond.
Tyler Smith had two goals and an assist, while Sam Hughes had a goal and two assists.
The Indians fall to 0-3 on the season with the loss.
Covington Catholic raced out to a 3-0 lead before Ashton Ward scored on a feed from Hughes. The Colonels led 3-1 at halftime.
Smith scored early in the second half, but CovCath got goal on a PK and then pushed ahead 5-2.
Hughes banged in a corner from Smith, then that combo got the Indians within a goal. Hughes sent a pass ahead to Smith, who worked around the goalie and found an empty net.
Central is set to return to action next Saturday in the Northern Kentucky Soccer Showcase.
