The Magnolia Panthers and Lady Panthers opened the 2022 tennis season with matches against several teams.
Against Arkansas High, the Lady Panthers lost 3-1 following matches in both singles and doubles. Jessica Del Angel was blanked 0-8 and Lillian Willis fell 1-8 in singles.
In doubles, Ja’Miya Wright and I’Shanna Ellis lost 2-6. Samantha Clayton and Sophia Sanchez won in doubles by a score of 6-2.
Against Nashville, Del Angel lost 4-8 in single and Willis won 8-6. In doubles, Wright/Ellis won 8-1. Losing were Sanchez/Clayton (2-8), Chloe Broomfield/Yuliana Sanchez (0-6) and Lizzy Carson/Alicia Del Angel (2-4).
For the Panthers against AHS, Jacob Lewis lost 4-8 and David Burgess fell 0-8. In doubles, losing were Landry Carter/Riley McCook (5-8), Judah Ray/Isaac Ray (4-8) and Layth Alvezari/Auzy Simmons (5-6). Winning was Aryan Simmons/Brodie Goodwin (7-5).
During the battle with Nashville, Lewis won his singles match 6-0, while Burgess fell 4-8. Carter/McCook lost 5-8 in doubles and I. Ray/J. Ray fell 4-8.
Against Smackover, Lady Panther De Angel lost 2-6, Willis won 2-0 and Clayton fell 0-1. In doubles, Ellis/Wright lost 4-6; Clayton Sanchez won 6-4; and Broomfield/Sanchez won 4-2.
For the Panthers, Carter won 6-2 in singles and Burgess lost 1-6. In doubles, Lewis/McCook won 3-1; I. Ray/J. Ray won 6-2; and Burgess/Carter own 4-1. Two of the matches were rained out.
On the court against Parkers Chapel the Lady Panthers were blanked 9-0, while the Panthers’ match with the Trojans was rained out.
In girls action, losing in singles were Ellis (0-8), Wright (1-8), Del Angel (1-8), Willis (4-8), Clayton (1-8) and Sanchez (2-8). In doubles, Wright/Ellis lost 0-8; Clayton/Y.Sanchez fell 0-8; Del Angel/Willis lost 1-6; and Broomfield/S. Sanchez lost 1-6.
In boys action before the match was rained out, Carter lost 0-8 in singles, Cook won 8-2, Lewis fell 7-9; I. Ray won 8-4; and J. Ray lost 8-9 (3-7) in a tiebreaker.
