TAMPA (Sept. 5, 2022) – The University of South Florida men’s soccer team returns to Corbett Stadium on Tuesday to face 2021 national runner-up and No. 8/2-ranked Washington. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. and the match can be seen live on ESPN+ ($). The meeting with the Huskies starts a short two-match homestand that ends with Mercer on Sept. 9 (7 p.m.). In addition, Tuesday is also Taco Tuesday where the first 150 USF students receive a free taco, along with-it being Youth Soccer Night and post match autographs.
The Bulls are looking for their first win of the season after a scoreless draw in their season-opener against FGCU on Aug. 25 and a 1-0 setback at No. 24 North Carolina on Aug. 28. South Florida is coming off a tough 1-0 loss at Marquette on Friday night in Milwaukee.
Following the Huskies, the Bulls close out their short two-match homestand on Friday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. against Mercer before beginning American Athletic Conference play on Sept. 16 at Florida Atlantic (7 p.m.).

THE SERIES VS. WASHINGTON
– South Florida and Washington meet for just the second time with the Huskies leading the all-time series, 1-0, with the one match being played at Corbett Stadium on Sept. 21, 2014 … UW defeated the Bulls, 2-1.
A LOOK AT THE HUSKIES
– Washington enters its match with South Florida with a 3-0 record on the year and has outscored the opposition, 9-2 in the three matches … Tuesday’s match is the lone road contest for the Huskies in their first seven matches.
– The Huskies are coming off a dominating performance where they defeated Utah Valley, 4-1 on Friday in Seattle … Washington opened 2022 with a 3-0 win over Sacramento State on Aug. 25 and followed that with a 2-1 victory over Central Arkansas on Aug. 29.
– Llijah Paul leads Washington in scoring with nine points on a team-high four goals and one assist.
LAST TIME OUT
– South Florida closed out its short two-match road stretch on Friday night, falling to Marquette, 1-0, in Milwaukee … After a scoreless first 45 minutes, the Golden Eagles scored the lone goal of the match in the 65′ on a penalty kick … The loss was the Bulls’ second-straight 1-0 setback that came by way of a penalty kick.
– South Florida had its opportunities during the evening, playing the aggressor, outshooting Marquette, 15-10 and 6-3 in shots on goal … They also held an 11-8 advantage in corner kicks.
– Marcus Victorio and Ajmeer Spengler each recorded a match-high three shots while Spengler had two shots on goal.
– Jackson Weyman had two saves on 10 shots faced.
– In addition to Jackson Weyman playing 90 minutes, Salvatore Mazzaferro, Shion Soga, Brian Schaefer and Luca Hollenstein all played a complete match.

USF Men’s Soccer competed in the school’s first ever intercollegiate athletic contest on Sept. 25, 1965, beating Florida Southern 4-3. Since then, the oldest program on campus has built a winning tradition, claiming 14 conference championships and making 21 NCAA Tournament appearances, including 3 trips to the elite eight.

The University of South Florida men’s soccer team was well represented on the AAC postseason All-Conference Team in 2021 with four players earning honors. Highlighting the Bulls’ honorees was the American Athletic Conference Co-Goalkeeper of the Year, Kazuna Takase, along with first-team selection Shion Soga. In addition, Takase was also selected to the All-Conference Second Team along with Salvatore Mazzaferro, and Josh Gomina was named to the AAC All-Rookie Team.
