SHAWNEE, Okla. – Southern Arkansas women’s golf finished 12th of 15 teams in the 23rd Northeastern State Women’s Fall Classic on Monday and Tuesday. True freshman Aubrey Marx found her way into the top fifteen at the Cherokee Hills Golf Club in just her second career tournament, finishing four strokes above her collegiate debut total in Missouri.
Marx collected back-to-back birdies in the first round and came back Tuesday to collect one more. On top of her birdies, Marx recorded 24 made pars, placing her within the top five across the two days of competition. She shot even or better on every par three hole and par five hole on day one. She finished six above par both days, finding herself tied for fifteenth among the 84-golfer field with her 36-hole total of 152 (+12). Southern Arkansas shot a collective 654 (+94) and was just 7 strokes back of the field’s top ten.
Emma Hester wasn’t going to let teammate Marx be the only freshman to record two birdies on day one, and collected a pair herself on holes 7 and 10. Over the two days of competition, Hester recorded 14 made pars and ended the tournament shooting 163 (+23). Hester recorded six consecutive pars on day 1, the most of any Mulerider. She went on to start day two with five consecutive pars.
Junior Chelsea Chow recorded ten made pars as well as two birdies and posted rounds at 83 and 86. Sophomore Kelsey Saveall recorded 14 made pars and finished at 170 across the two rounds of play, just one stroke above Chow. Freshman Anna Cain shot 185 with 10 pars for the tournament.
As a team, the Muleriders totaled 72 pars and seven birdies.
