OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. — The No. 9 Texas Men’s Golf team carded a 12-over-par 292 on Friday to rest in 14th place in the team standings following the opening round of the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club (North Course). Senior Travis Vick paced the Longhorns with an even-par 70 and is tied for 13th in the individual standings.
The 15-team field at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational features 10 teams that are ranked in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll (Sept. 9). No. 15 Stanford holds the 18-hole team lead after firing a tournament single-round record score of 10-under-par 270. No. 11 and tourney host Illinois is second at 9-under-par 271, while No. 3 Florida is third at 3-under-par 277.
Adrien Dumont de Chassart of Illinois and Stanford’s Karl Vilips share the 18-hole individual lead at 5-under-par 65. Illinois’ Tommy Kuhl and Michael Thorbjornsen of Stanford are tied for third at 3-under-par 67. Vick was one of just 22 players to record a round of even-par or better on Friday.
The OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational continues with 18 holes on Saturday, September 17 and concludes with 18 holes on Sunday, September 18. Texas will be paired with Baylor and Army for Saturday’s second round, and tee times will begin at 9 a.m. Central off the 10th tee.
The Lineup
- Senior Travis Vick carded an even-par 70 on Friday and is tied for 13th in the individual standings. Vick posted a birdie on hole 5 and a bogey on hole 14 in addition to 16 pars during his opening round.
- Freshman Christiaan Maas posted a 2-over-par 72 in his collegiate debut. Maas tallied a pair of birdies on Friday and is tied for 30th.
- Freshman Jacob Sosa carded a 4-over-par 74 in his collegiate debut. Sosa posted a pair of birdies in his opening round and is tied for 50th.
- Senior Mason Nome tallied a 6-over-par 76 on Friday and is tied for 61st, while freshman Keaton Vo fired a 9-over-par 79 in his collegiate debut and is tied for 75th.
