ERIE — Warren’s girls tennis team fell 5-0 at Cathedral Prep on Thursday.
“We are currently down two starters at the moment so we knew going into this match it would be a challenge,” said Warren coach Thomas Pellegrino. “We’re going to get back to work tomorrow and look to bounce back with some wins next week.”
The Dragons have four matches scheduled for next week.
In this one, at top singles, Iris Kiehl lost to Anna Poranski, 4-6, 1-6, and Lucy Harrison lost in three long sets to Sophia Glance. Harrison captured the first set 7-6 (7-5) before dropping the next two, 2-6, 3-6.
“This was the match of the day and was an extremely impressive performance from Lucy,” said Pellegrino. “Sophia is a very talented player with a big game, but Lucy hustled for every ball and made her earn every point. Lucy is peaking at the right time and keeps improving week after week.”
Making her singles debut, Tasha Ferry lost to Basil Bannister, 1-6, 3-6.
“This was the first time Tasha has played a varsity singles match and we were very pleased with her play today,” added Pellegrino.
In doubles, Izzy Heacox and Kaelin Hatfield lost 1-6, 1-6, and Madalynn Perry and Sydnie Cochran lost 3-6, 1-6.
Warren’s Anna Courson, Winnie Wolf, Maddie McDunn, Ella Card and Ashley Plank all won their junior varsity matches.
