SAN FRANCISCO–University of Hawai’i men’s tennis players Andre Ilagan and Axel Labrunie fell both combined and individually on the second day of the Battle in the Bay Classic. On Friday, the Rainbow Warrior duo dropped their doubles match against the No. 1 seed before both dropped their singles matches at the California Tennis Club in San Francisco, Calif.
In doubles, Ilagan and Labrunie took on the No. 1 seeded pair of Jacob Fearnley and Luc Fomba of Texas Christian University (TCU). The Horned Frogs advanced to Saturday’s semifinals after defeating Hawai’i, 8-2.
In singles, California’s Ryder Jackson upset sixth-seeded Ilagan in a hard fought three sets. Ilagan took the first set by a break, but lost the final two, 5-7, 7-6(4), 6-3. With the win, Jackson punched his ticket into Saturday’s quarterfinals.
Labrunie fell in his men’s singles consolation match to Pacific’s Ran Amar, 6-1, 6-1
