OMAHA, Neb. — UNI tennis opened play at the Omaha Duals on Friday afternoon at the Koch Tennis Center, kicking off a two-day competition with doubles matches against Missouri State and Omaha, and singles against Creighton.
Darta Daleka and Lorena Cardosa, who carried a 5-4 doubles record into this weekend’s action, dropped their first two matches of the day, falling 7-6 against Missouri State’s Alyson Piskulik and Diana Cabrera, and 6-3 to Omaha’s Jessica Aragon and Ines Absison.
The duo of Andrijana Brkic and Issa Sullivan also dropped a pair of doubles matches on Friday, coming up short against Juliette Robinson and Sandra Lukacova of Missouri State, and 6-4 to Zoe Adkins and Keegan VanPelt of Omaha.
Thaissa Moreira and Lasya Mylavarapu recorded UNI’s lone victory in doubles play during the first day of competition, defeating the Bears’ Amy Henning and Silvia Avakian 6-2. Moreina and Brkic would fall short 6-4 in their second match of the afternoon against the Mavericks’ Brooke Covington and Summer Shannon.
In singles competition against Creighton, Mylavarapu would pick up UNI’s only victory, sweeping Allison Wilcox in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6)
The Panthers wrap up competition tomorrow as they face off with Creighton in doubles at 9:30 a.m., before taking on Omaha in singles at 10:30 a.m., followed by Missouri State in singles at 1 p.m.
