MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The three-time defending NESCAC Champion Wesleyan women’s tennis team hosted Hamilton for a rare dual match in the fall semester on Sunday morning from Bacon Field House. Wesleyan made quick work of the Continentals, defeating their league foe 9-0.
Wesleyan dropped just four total games in the three doubles matches, taking a 3-0 lead into singles where all six matches were decided in straight sets, with the Cardinals coming out on top in all six.
Starting in the doubles portion, reigning All-Americans Caitlyn Ferrante ’23 and Sasha Gaeth ’23 won 8-2 at #1 over Pratt and Cutler. Nika Vesely ’25 and Kristina Yu ’22 teamed up for the first time and it couldn’t have gone better, with the new pairing defeating Rainero and Cicevo by an 8-0 score line at #2. Katie Fleischman ’23 and Renna Mohsen-Breen ’25 made it a clean sweep with an 8-2 win at #3 over Walpole and Glidden.
In singles play, Serim Jin ’23 opened with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Solavey at #5. Mohsen-Breen was next to finish at #6 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Rainero. Making her debut appearance in a dual match for the Cardinals, rookie Sarah Youngberg ’26 impressed with a 6-1, 6-0 win at #4 over Cutler. Next to finish was Ferrante at #2 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Cicero. Securing the clean sweep victory for Wesleyan was Vesely at #1 over Pratt (6-2, 6-2) and Yu over Walpole at #3 (6-1, 6-1).
Wesleyan is back in action for the final time this fall with the NEWITT Tournament from October 7-9 hosted by Smith and Mount Holyoke.
