Head-to-Head:
After meeting twice in the preseason, the Devils and Islanders face off for the first time in the regular season. The Devils and Islanders split the two games, both teams winning on their home ice.
Devils Team Scope:
The Devils are coming off their first win of the season, a 4-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night. The night held a bunch of firsts of the season for several players, including first goals by Ondrej Palat, Nico Hischier, and Dawson Mercer.
Jesper Bratt continues to accumulate points with a team-leading five in the opening three games. All five of Bratt’s points are assists as he remains in search of his first goal of the year. Bratt was reunited on a line with Hischier towards the end of Tuesday game, which is where he practiced on Wednesday. Hischier was flanked by Palat and Bratt.
Islanders Team Scope:
The Islanders are fresh off a 5-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks. Oliver Wahlstrom had two goals against the Sharks, tied for the team lead in points (4) with Anders Lee and Brock Nelson.
Wahlstrom leads the club in goals (3). Semyon Varlamov picked up the victory in net, in his first appearance of the season, making 27 saves on 29 shots.
