Women’s tennis returns to action this week as they travel just up the road to play in the Gonzaga Invitational. The competition runs from Friday, Oct. 28 to Sunday, Oct. 30.
“We are ready and eager to compete again this weekend at the Gonzaga Invite,” head coach Dustin Hinson said. “We will get a chance to see and compete against several of our conference opponents, which is always good. We have been training hard and looking good in practice. I’m excited to see how we compete in our first indoor event of the fall season.”
At the tournament, Eastern will be one of six teams competing in three singles draws and two doubles.
Single Draws
In the blue bracket singles draw, Isabella Foshee opens against Kianna Oda from Gonzaga. Leandra Nizetic faces Rose Hayes from Gonzaga and Scout Mathews takes on Portland’s Rimona Rouf.
The red bracket singles draw, Renata Gabuzyan begins against Montana State’s Felicia Jayasapurtra. Kenzington Mann meets Montana State’s Maria Villarejo in the first round.
The white bracket singles draw has Sara Vasic playing Portland State’s Madison Egan. Taylor Andersen will face Ivayla Mitkova in the quarterfinals after getting a first-round bye.
Double Draws
Opening up the blue bracket doubles, Andersen and Mathews partner up against Montana’s Maria Goheen and Olivia Oosterbaan. Foshee and Nizetic will compete together against Portland State’s Madison Egan and Nell Arendt.
In the red bracket doubles, Mann and Gabuzyan will join to play matches against Montana State’s Maria Villarejo and PSU’s Elizabeth Strongina. Vasic will also be competing in the red doubles, playing with Montana’s Nancy Cabanas.
Last Time Out
Eastern was last on the court two weeks ago at the ITA Northwest Regionals in Stanford, Calif. At the regionals, Kenzington Mann and Taylor Andersen won two doubles matches in the consolation round. Mann would also win two singles matches against Santa Clara’s Kacey Feng (6-4, 6-2) and Saint Mary’s Jamie Pope(6-2, 6-2).
Isabella Foshee and Leandra Nizetic joined up to win two doubles matches as well in Stanford. Foshee added two singles wins, defeating Sacramento State’s Tsveti Yotova(3-6, 6-3(10-7)) and Saint Mary’s Stefanie Silva(6-1, 5-7(10-8)). Nizetic would defeat Fresno State’s Leann Serna in singles(7-5, 6-3).
