It is not very often that women earn more than men in tennis – or sport in general for that matter – but Iga Swiatek has managed to top her male counterparts so far this campaign.
The Pole has dominated on the WTA Tour this season, winning eight titles – including the French Open and US Open – while she also finished runner-up at the Ostrava Open and reached the semi-final of the Australian Open.
Swaitek has pocketed $9,405,525 so far this campaign and that figure will increase after the season-ending WTA Finals. Her biggest pay day came at the US Open when she earned a winner’s cheque of $2,600,000 while at Roland Garros she walked added $2,36m to her bank account.
Both the Indian Wells Open and Miami Open also awarded cheques in excess of $1.2m while she would have earned about $645,000 for her run to the last four at Melbourne Park.
She could add another $1,6m to her tally if she wins the WTA Finals undefeated.
The 21-year-old leads teenage sensation Alcaraz by a couple of million as the Spaniard’s bank account has been inflated by $7,519,409 so far in 2022 after winning the US Open, Miami Open, Madrid Open, Barcelona Open and Rio Open.
Alcaraz received the same cheques as Swiatek at Flushing Meadows and Miami while he won $1,03m in Madrid and $462,000 in Barcelona. He also pocketed some decent cash for reaching the semi-final in Indian Wells and quarter-final at Roland Garros.
Alcaraz, though, also still has plenty of earning potential as he could pick up $828,000 for winning the Paris Masters while a massive $4,7m is on offer for going undefeated at the ATP Finals.
Nadal, meanwhile, also won two Grand Slams as he was successful at the Australian Open ($2,071m) and French Open while he received $671,000 for getting to the semi-final of Wimbledon and $646,000 for finishing runner-up at Indian Wells.
The 21-time Grand Slam winner is third on $6,699,851 overall with Wimbledon and US Open runner-up Ons Jabeur fourth on $4,777,069.
Novak Djokovic sits fifth with $4,739,252 despite playing very little tennis this year due to his unvaccinated status. The $2,507,460 he collected for winning Wimbledon was a big booster.
