Despite the humongous defeat team India endured in the semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 against England, the side remains No.1 in the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20I Team Rankings.
Based on the current rankings after England won the marquee event Down Under at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the Jos Buttler-led team has taken the second place with 265 ranking points, three point behind India.
Despite the loss in the finals, Babar Azam-led Pakistan remain on 258 rankings points while South Africa and semi-finalists New Zealand occupy the fourth and the fifth spot respectively with just a margin of one ranking point.
England crowned champions
Meanwhile, the mouth-watering encounter between Pakistan and England concluded with the latter rising high on the occasion and emerging victorious. The Three Lions beat Pakistan by five wickets to clinch their second-ever T20 World Cup title.
The side has now equalled West Indies for winning two T20 World titles. Adding to this, England are also the first team to hold both ODI and T20 World Cup at the same time as they clinched the 2019 Cricket World Cup title by beating New Zealand at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Interestingly, Ben Stokes was instrumental in the side winning the 50-over competition and played a similar role in winning the T20 World Cup 2022.
